Carnegie UK Trust welcomes reforms to the Scottish National Performance Framework

15/12/2011
The Carnegie UK Trust today welcomed the Scottish Government’s announced reforms to the National Performance Framework, ‘Scotland Performs’.

In a letter sent to public sector leader and Scottish NGOs, Finance Secretary John Swinney announced a revised set of 50 National Indicators, and a 16th National Outcome focused on independent living for older citizens.

In his letter, Mr Swinney praised the leadership shown by Carnegie UK in establishing its Round Table on Measuring Social and Economic Progress in Scotland. This led to the Trust’s influential 2011 report, ‘More Than GDP: Measuring What Matters.”

Carnegie UK Trust Chief Executive Martyn Evans, who recently provided expert evidence to the Scottish Parliament Finance Committee on the importance of wellbeing measurement indicators, said:

“We welcome the renewed focus on Scotland Performs, and the Cabinet Secretary’s recognition of the Trust’s engagement with this critical area of public policy.

“We look forward to seeing more detail about the reforms to the Framework, and we hope that Scottish society – parliamentarians, NGOs, business, citizens and beyond – will take this opportunity to fully engage with the ‘More Than GDP’ agenda.

“Modern measurement of social wellbeing and progress is only effective if the whole community comes together to find its shared, contemporary priorities.”
