The full report of the Carnegie UK Trust's Festival of Politics seminar, Reporting the Independence Referendum, is now available - click here to read it.

The seminar took place at the Scottish Parliament on Saturday 27 August as part of the annual Festival of Politics.  Carnegie Fellow Blair Jenkins chaired the discussion, which saw a high level panel - including John Boothman from BBC Scotland, Alan Roden from the Scottish Daily Mail, Professor Sarah Oates from the University of Glasgow, Stewart Kirkpatrick from Caledonian Mercury, and Joan McAlpine MSP - debate how the media cover will Scotland's forthcoming independence referendum.

A packed audience Committee Room 1 also played their part in the lively debate.  Key issues explored included the different roles of print, broadcast and digital media in covering the referendum, the economic challenges facing much of the media industry and the impact that this may have upon the referendum coverage, and the question of whether the referendum campaign is likely to be dominated by personalities or issues.

As well as being a valuable debate in its own right, many of the issues covered in the seminar are now helping to inform the Trust's ongoing programme of work on the Future of News in the UK and Ireland.
