Young, Gifted and Rural! Event

02/08/2011

Carnegie UK Trust’s Rural Development Community of Practice is working in partnership with the Scottish National Rural Network to explore how to get more young people involved in rural community life, and is inviting people to join them to share their ideas and experiences at this exploratory networking event.

Are you a young person involved in your rural community? Are you a community group who has succeeded in involving young people in your work and activities? If the answer to either of these questions is yes, then this event is certainly for you!

Rural community groups often express their concerns about the difficulties of getting younger people involved in their activities, and what this means for the future of their communities.  This event aims to bring together the people who have had positive experiences in this area, alongside young people who are involved in their community life, to explore what works well, and how we can develop things further.

The event will take place at Carnegie UK Trust's Dunfermline headquarters, Andrew Carnegie House, from 11am until 3pm on Thursday 6th October.

Both organisations are also keen for people to continue the conversations they start at this event, and get more people sharing their experiences, by inviting them to join and connect on the online Community of Practice Fiery Spirits website.

We hope this event will be a launch pad for future work in this area, which could include the development of a best practice toolkit and a future larger networking event.
